London - arts events

Promoted and adapted from a comment to
denalyia for anyone else wondering how I always know about gigs and theatre events. Basically, I'm on about three million mailing lists.
I get loads of mails from the Barbican (at least three a week, covering the different areas) and daily mails from various ticket agencies, I do try to post anything I think people might be interested in on my LJ but if I were to post about them all I'd be updating it constantly and you'd all get fed up! I'd no idea people were so interested in Shakespeare or I'd have mentioned this one.
The Barbican's mailing list subscription page is here. I'm a Barbican member (£20 a year) but you don't have to join to be on their mailing list, although if you do you get advance warning of any likely sell out shows and 20% off tickets (not more than two per show, and not hall hires like Dead Can Dance was). As well as theatre, art and music they do films, a mix of new releases and old classics. There's a lot of arthouse stuff but a good amount of more populist films too, the new Hitchhiker's film is on for the next few weeks. The cinemas are dead comfy and cheaper than the West End (£7.50 or £5 on Mondays) but they don't sell hotdogs or popcorn!
A useful resource for gigs is Stargreen's LJ RSS feed, even if you don't book through Stargreen, but I'm also on See Tickets mailing list, and lots of other smaller promoters' lists.
